We are thrilled to offer SJMS Scorpions an optional 7th period elective pathway for those interested in exploring STEM, visual and theater arts, or performing arts. Please see the attached letter from Superintendent Derby and the pathway descriptions to learn more about this exciting pilot program.

If your child is interested in adding a 7th period, you must complete the Google Form application linked below by Monday, August 15, 2022. That is a quick turnaround, but it is a simple application. The first class for the fall semester will start on Monday, August 22, 2022, so we are enrolling students beginning today.

The pathways, detailed below, consist of a fall class paired with a semester class and, by applying and signing the Student Contract and Permission Slip, you are agreeing to a 7th period (extended day) for the 2022-2023 school year. The classes will be tracked on Aeries like other classes, and coursework will be graded.

Performing Arts Pathway:

  1. Beginning Choir with Ms. Starr
  2. Beginning Dance with Ms. Cacchi

Visual and Theater Arts Pathway:

  1. Introduction to Sculpture with Ms. Imhoff-Bruininks
  2. Theater Production & Product Design with Ms. Fisher

STEM Pathway:

  1. Coding & Maker Studio with Mrs. Fried
  2. Math in the Real World with Mrs. Eurgubian

Beginning Monday, August 22, 2022, classes will meet every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 2:44-3:50 pm, and attendance is required. There is no 7th-period class on Wednesdays; dismissal from school will be 1:40 pm every Wednesday.

Your next steps:

  1. Review the attached materials, including Dr. Derby’s letter, detailed pathway descriptions, and the informational slides.
  2. Apply for STEAM at SJMS using this link by Monday, August 15.
  3. After you receive notice of enrollment, complete and sign the Student Contract and Permission Slip. You may print, complete, and email it to [email protected], or drop it off in the main office at 1000 Sunset Pkwy. Another option is to stop into the office, and we will provide you with a hard copy to complete and sign.
