Here’s What Every Family Needs To Know

As we begin to return to in-person learning, we are committed to practicing every precaution to keep our families safe and healthy.  This page is intended to provide a central hub of information.

Grade 6, 7 & 8 students have returned to flexible in-person learning on a hybrid schedule.

Marin Health & Human Services and Marin County Office of Education have approved a return to in-person learning on a part-time basis for all of our students.  We ask every family to carefuly follow all safety precautions to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Each morning, respond to the daily email from CrisisGo and get your Safety iPass.

CrisisGo logo - safety through communication

  • Every morning, look for an email from CrisisGo.  It will have a subject line like this:  (Novato Unified School District) Student Pre-Visit Certification Request

  • Open the email, and click on the blue button.
  • Choose the option that best describes your child’s health status.  Then click the blue button.
  • If your child’s health status is safe for in-person learning, you will see a digital “CrisisGo Safety iPass” on your phone next.  Your child does not need to have this digital pass with them to attend class, but the report must be done daily.

If your child’s health status is NOT safe for in-person learning…

Please keep them home and contact the school to report the absence
by phone (415) 883-7831 or email [email protected].

Top Ten Things Every Family Needs To Know

These are just a few of the important details you need to know.
Please make sure you visit the SJMS Returning To School Page to watch the Walk Through Video
and inform your child of all safety precautions before they return to campus.

  1. Students will be assigned to either Cohort A or B.  Sixth grade students can find their Cohort assignment now on Google Classroom; we anticipate that 7th and 8th grade cohorts will be ready on November 30.  Check your Google Classroom for your first period class.
  2. Starting Nov 30, two days a week, 6th-grade students will attend just two classes on campus in the afternoon, with their Cohort:
Cohort A will attend Mondays & Tuesdays from 1:15 pm to 2:45 pm
Cohort B will attend Thursdays and Fridays from 1:15 pm to 2:45 pm
  3. All students will continue to participate in classes remotely in the mornings Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.
  4. Face coverings and physical distance are required at all times while on campus.
  5. Instruct your child to visit the school health office only if they feel sick. It is a high-risk area.
  6. Check each child for signs of illness every morning.  Complete the Crisis Go Health Screening each morning before arriving at school.
  7. “Test or 10”: Students with symptoms of COVID-19 must be tested or stay at home and isolate for at least 10 days.  Please inform the school.
  8. If your child tests positive for COVID-19, you must notify the school immediately.
  9. Plan for possible cohort or school closures, and plan to pick up your child promptly if they are sick.
  10. Students MUST complete work that is assigned for them asynchronously.  Beginning in January, students should consider that they have a full school day.  Some parts of the day are with their teachers; other times they will be working on their own.  Students should be engaged in school from 8:20 AM until 2:45 pm.
