Building Community and Stretching Our Wings

Middle school is an important time when young adults work on discovering their own values and abilities and begin to find their place in their community.  San Jose Middle School strives to support every young person’s journey to becoming the best version of themselves.

Our Student Leadership program focuses on making SJMS a welcoming place for every student and encouraging school spirit.  The “Associated Student Body” or “ASB” Leadership Team works together on activities such as:

    • Planning spirit days
    • Planning school-wide events and competitions
    • Making sure student voices are heard in school-wide decisions
    • Working with staff members to implement those decisions

Through their participation, students learn about their own identities and leadership qualities, their roles in local and global community, decision-making, budgeting and parliamentary procedure, and often make lifelong friends and memories.

All 7th and 8th grade students are invited to apply to participate in the Leadership elective when they sign up for other electives.
